At a minimum, Below-the-Hook-Lifting-Devices must have a documented periodic inspection
Rigging equipment come in all shapes and sizes. A special category of rigging equipment are below-the-hook-lifting-devices (BTHLDs), the beam trolley shown below being an example.
Best practices including identification, use, maintenance, and testing for these equipment are found in ASME B30.20.
When it comes to inspection, the standard identifies three classifications: Every Lift Inspection, Frequent Inspection, and Periodic Inspection.
The Periodic Inspection must be documented and the inspection frequency depends on the frequency of equipment use, in some cases as often as quarterly. A qualified person can assist in determining a periodic inspection schedule.
