Is it permissible to pass a load over a crane's outrigger?

Load handling near a crane's structure increases the risk of damage and injury

Manufacturer Recommendation

The crane's load chart provides the first indications of load proximity to the crane by designating the minimum radius at a chosen boom length and boom angle. The size and shape of the load, maximum boom angle, and hoisting height are all variables that must be considered to determine the potential of moving a load close to the crane structure.
ASME B30.5-3.2.1.5 (J) (3) provides guidance to contact the manufacturer or qualified person for special operating procedures.

ITI Best Practice

From a practical perspective, suspending a load close to the boom, over an outrigger, or operator's cab increases the risk of damage or injury, yet may be allowed depending on a careful consideration of all information.
A sizeable number of companies restrict or prohibit load handling activities at a crane's minimum allowable radius as operators are generally not happy with the load in their lap.
