Constellation Energy operates the largest fleet of nuclear plants in the United States, with 21 reactors which produce clean, zero-carbon, reliable, safe energy. Today at Constellation a groundbreaking initiative is underway in partnership with ITI Simulations. With a vision to transform training and professional development for not only Constellation, but the nuclear space on the whole, Constellation has embarked on a journey revolutionizing how their nuclear sites prepare for outages via the use of virtual reality training.
Constellation Nuclear Training Manager, Marvin Burdick has custom outfit a trailer to house three distinctly different ITI VR Crane Simulator experiences. This trailer is utilized to conduct training sessions tailored to address outage scenarios across the various sites. This strategy, akin to the successful training scenarios adopted by TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority), holds the promise of optimizing both labor and time resources. By bringing the training directly to the nuclear sites and aligning it with outage schedules, Constellation anticipates substantial efficiency gains.
With two nuclear site visits already underway, the stage is set for the commencement of training sessions, each spanning six weeks. Anticipation runs high among the teams at Constellation Nuclear. Marvin's base in the Pennsylvania/Maryland area serves as a strategic hub for overseeing this ambitious project. As the trailer embarks on its journey, it carries with it the promise of safer, more efficient nuclear operations.
