John has been a practicing marine surveyor for over 40 years and received his initial training with ABS in New Orleans shipyards. A marine engineering graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, John holds a current and valid marine engineer’s license. Specializing in Hull and Machinery, John P. Colletti and Associates also performs a wide variety of suitability for service surveys.
Accredited by OSHA’s office of Maritime Compliance, John and his son, Stephen, a marine engineering graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, perform certification surveys of shore-based material handling devices and floating cranes and floating derricks for a number of marine construction companies.
John served as the Chair of the ASME B-30.8 subcommittee on Floating Cranes and Derricks and the National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) Hull and Machinery Technical Committee and has spoken numerous times on the subject of cranes aboard barges and other floating platforms.
